Senator Stabenow Statement on Second Anniversary of U.S. Supreme Court Overturning Roe v. Wade

WASHINGTON – Senator Stabenow released the following statement on the two-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.

“Two years ago, the Supreme Court shook the nation when they took away the fundamental freedom to make our own reproductive health decisions, putting the lives of so many women at risk. Since then, we have seen attacks from Republicans on access to contraception, IVF, and abortion care. 1 in 3 American women now live in a state with extreme restrictions on abortion.

“Over the last month, Democrats have acted to protect these freedoms for women. Every time we have brought bills to the Senate floor—the Right to IVF Act, the Right to Contraception Act—Republicans have blocked them. And, we know unfortunately they won’t stop there. If Republicans get their way with a national abortion ban, Michigan’s constitutional protections for reproductive freedom will no longer be in effect.

“Women want and deserve the freedom to make our own health care decisions. These decisions don’t belong to politicians or judges – not in America.”
