Stabenow, Peters, Kildee Announce Genesee and Saginaw County Airports Will Receive Nearly $4 Million in Federal Funding for Improvements
Thursday, April 08, 2021WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Gary Peters (MI) and U.S. Representative Dan Kildee (MI-05) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation will be awarding $1,524,588 to MBS International Airport and $2,456,351 to Bishop International Airport. This funding will go toward costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airports.
“These investments will make air travel safer and more reliable,” said Senator Stabenow. “It will help our communities rebound from the pandemic and encourage businesses to invest in the region and create jobs.”
“As we work to emerge from this pandemic, safe and reliable air travel is critical to keeping residents and businesses across the Bay Region connected to important markets and destinations,” said Senator Peters, a member of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. “I was proud to help enact this funding to help the MBS International Airport Commission and the Bishop International Airport overcome COVID-related revenue shortfalls, retain staff and better protect traveler health and safety.”
“This pandemic is not over and our local airports still need economic relief to help maintain safe operations,” said Congressman Kildee. “Despite decreased passenger traffic and increased costs due to the pandemic, our local airports continue to provide essential passenger and cargo services that keep our regional economy moving. I am pleased to announce these federal grants and am committed to bringing critical resources to Michigan to address the public health and economic crises caused by the pandemic.”
