Stabenow, Peters Announce Over $23 Million for Improvements at Detroit Metro Airport and Willow Run Airport
Thursday, April 27, 2023WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Gary Peters (MI) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) will be awarding the Wayne County Airport Authority two grants through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program. The Detroit Metro Wayne County Airport (DTW) will receive $10,378,199 to reconstruct a taxiway, and the Willow Run Airport will receive $12,780,187 for construction of a new taxiway.
“Having reliable and safe air service is crucial for economic development, commerce, and tourism,” said Senator Stabenow. “This funding is another critical infrastructure investment coming to our state and will improve Detroit Metro Wayne County and Willow Run Airports for years to come.”
“Detroit Metro Airport is a major transportation hub and economic engine for Michigan, and the Willow Run Airport plays a critical role as a center for transporting cargo,” said Senator Peters. “I’m proud to support the federal program that provided this funding for taxiway updates that will help increase capacity and safe travel at these airports.”
