Stabenow, Peters Announce Detroit Metro Airport Will Receive Nearly $2 Million in Federal Funds for Improvements

U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Gary Peters (MI) today announced that the Department of Transportation (DOT) will be awarding $1,957,480 to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. This Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant is supplemented by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act — which Stabenow and Peters helped enact — to support airports affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The funding will go towards infrastructure improvements including the purchase of two zero-emissions shuttle buses and associated charging infrastructure.

“This investment will make traveling to and from Metro Detroit safer and more efficient,” said Senator Stabenow. “Safe and reliable air travel will also help encourage businesses to invest in the region and create jobs.”

“Detroit Metro Airport is a world-class airport and a major hub for logistics, transportation and commerce in Michigan and our country,” said Senator Peters. “I’m pleased to announce this grant, which will incorporate clean energy technologies for airport operations.”
