Senators Stabenow, Peters Announce Over $200,000 in Support for Fire Departments in Fenton and Mt. Pleasant
Friday, July 31, 2020WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters today announced $295,415 for fire departments in Fenton and Mt. Pleasant to purchase new equipment and improve services. These grants include $11,428 for the City of Fenton and $283,987 for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. These grants come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants program.
"Our firefighters in Fenton and Mt. Pleasant put their lives on the line to protect our families, homes, and communities," said Senator Stabenow. "These new resources will provide critical training and give our first responders the equipment they need to better serve the public and do their jobs safely and effectively.”
“Now more than ever, our firefighters and first responders are doing all they can to ensure our communities are safe places to call home during this difficult time,” said Senator Peters. “This funding will help ensure departments in Fenton and Mt. Pleasant will be better equipped to do their jobs efficiently and safely when emergencies arise.”
Eligible fire departments and Emergency Medical Services organizations in Michigan and across the country can apply for Assistance to Firefighters Grants. These competitive grants help first responders purchase the equipment and obtain the training needed to handle fire-related hazards.
