Senators Stabenow, Peters Announce $1.5 Million for the Blue Water Transportation Commission
Funding Will Provide Two New Electric Zero-Emission Buses
Friday, August 24, 2018U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters today announced that the Blue Water Transportation Commission will receive $1,500,000 to purchase two new electric zero-emission transit buses and provide the necessary infrastructure upgrade to recharge the buses. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration.
"These new buses are a win-win for our community,” said Senator Stabenow. "Many families will have a safe and dependable way to get to work, school or the doctor's office and we’re protecting our air quality at the same time."
“I applaud this funding that will not only provide safe, reliable transportation for families in the Blue Water region, but it will help protect public health with improved air quality,” said Senator Peters.
"We are excited to continue being at the fore-front of transit technology and reducing emissions. It’s great to see funding come through to purchase two buses, plus the necessary infrastructure upgrades for recharging the buses," said Dave Frasier, Director of Procurement for Blue Water Transit. "This grant allows us to continue to improve the air quality in St. Clair County and serve our community in a safe and efficient manner."
