Wednesday, January 26, 2022Senator Debbie Stabenow released the following statement on the House of Representatives introducing the America COMPETES Act. The America COMPETES Act includes the language Senator Stabenow and Senator Gary Peters wrote that would invest $2 billion to make semiconductor chips for the auto industry in the United States. The legislation passed the Senate in June 2021.
“The global pandemic has shown us what happens when we are dependent on parts made halfway around the world. The semiconductor crisis is devastating Michigan workers, families and businesses. We have no time to waste to fix this. Now that our provision to invest in making semiconductor chips for the auto industry at home has been included in the America COMPETES Act, we can take the next step on making it law. Michigan workers are the best in the world, and this legislation will help them lead our manufacturing future.”
