Senator Stabenow Statement on Announcement of Supreme Court Nominee

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) made the following statement regarding the nomination of Chief Judge Merrick Garland of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to be the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court:

“One of the most important Constitutional duties as a United States Senator is to confirm Justices of the Supreme Court. It is essential that the next Justice be highly-qualified as well as fair and impartial. In the coming weeks, I will carefully review Judge Merrick Garland’s record. This is a job I take very seriously, and I urge my colleagues to do the same. The American people deserve fair and open hearings and a vote on the President’s nominee to the highest court in the land.”
