Bill invests in our troops and Michigan military facilities

U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) secured important priorities for Michigan in the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, which passed the Senate by a margin of 87-13.

“This bill is an important step forward—it secures a well-earned pay raise for our service members and provides funding to improve Michigan military facilities. I am disappointed, however, that increased funding for F-15EX procurement is not included. I will continue to advocate for this in the FY24 defense appropriations bill, and continue to pursue all possible opportunities for Selfridge Air National Guard Base,” said Senator Stabenow.

This year, Senator Stabenow secured important provisions, including:

  • A 5.2% pay raise for our men and women in uniform.
  • Upgrading and enhancing military facilities across Michigan: At the Detroit Arsenal, the bill invests $72 million to build a new ground transport equipment building and $2.4 million for the planning and design of a new tactical vehicle lab. The bill also invests $24 million in the Battle Creek Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center to construct two new buildings and a vehicle wash platform.
  • Protecting Americans from PFAS: The bill holds the Department of Defense accountable to keep Michigan families safe from harmful chemicals. It requires DOD to report to Congress on the proposed schedule and cost estimates of the completion of PFAS remediation activities and publish the current status of those activities. The bill also extends an ongoing health study on the impacts of PFAS exposure, which is critical for establishing stronger federal standards for PFAS.
