Senator Stabenow Celebrates Agreement Between Michigan, Illinois, and Army Corps of Engineers to Begin Construction on Brandon Road Interbasin Project
Monday, July 01, 2024LANSING, MICH. – Senator Stabenow, co-chair of the bipartisan Senate Great Lakes Task Force, released the following statement after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the State of Michigan, and the State of Illinois signed a Project Partnership Agreement for the Brandon Road Interbasin Project. This agreement allows construction to begin on this critical project.
For years, Senator Stabenow has led the bipartisan effort to protect our Great Lakes from invasive carp with the Brandon Road Interbasin Project. Stabenow’s leadership has been instrumental in implementing interim measures over the years to stop the Carp and paving the way for this permanent solution by ensuring it has the funding for design, construction, and maintenance.
“The Brandon Road Interbasin Project is essential to stopping invasive carp from wreaking havoc on our Great Lakes, and today we are hitting a major milestone – the start of the construction phase. I’ve worked tirelessly over the years to get this critical project to this point, alongside my partners in the U.S. Senate, Michigan, Illinois, and the Army Corps of Engineers.
