Republicans Block Senate Vote on Unemployment Insurance
Tuesday, January 14, 2014U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow made the following statement today after Republicans blocked a Senate vote on extension of emergency unemployment insurance. While a majority of senators voted in favor of the legislation (55-45), it was blocked by a Republican filibuster. Senator Stabenow said:
"While the economy continues to improve, unemployment is still far too high and there are still three people looking for work for every one job available. This support is the last lifeline for those out of work through no fault of their own. It is critical so they can put food on the table, keep the heat on and keep a roof over their heads while they look for a job. I am deeply disappointed that my Republican colleagues would block this important support."
