Sens. Stabenow, Levin Announce Nearly $2.5 Million for Michigan Airports |
|
WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, both D-Mich., announced two grants totaling $2,497,752 for the Houghton County Memorial Airport in the Upper Peninsula and Bishop International Airport in Flint. The funds are made available through the Department of Transportation. “These investments are important to travelers in and out of the Flint and Upper Peninsula areas,” said Stabenow. “I am pleased this funding will help improve aircraft deicing at Bishop International and provide a long overdue upgrade to the equipment our first responders at Houghton County Memorial Airport are using to keep passengers safe.” “This funding will help these airports provide important safety benefits and improve on capacity and efficiency for travelers,” Levin said. “These funds provide needed upgrades at both airports, so I am gratified the Department of Transportation has made these grants.” The Houghton County Memorial Airport will receive $648,850 to purchase an aircraft rescue and fire fighting vehicle, replacing a 20-year-old vehicle that has outlived its useful life.
The Bishop International Airport will receive $1,848,902 to continue rehabilitation of the terminal and upgrade pavements to accommodate future deicing for commercial airliners at the airport.
