Sens. Stabenow and Levin Announce More Than $4 Million in Energy Efficiency Grants

Funding Made Available Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin , both D-Mich., announced $4,164,600 in grants designed to improve energy efficiency and create green energy jobs in seven Michigan communities. The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant awards made through the Department of Energy are made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“By developing new conservation strategies for our cities, we are taking necessary steps to make our country more energy independent, while also creating jobs,” Stabenow said. “I am pleased that these funds will allow Michigan to build upon its efforts to become a leader in the clean energy economy.”

“These stimulus funds will not only create green jobs across Michigan but will support energy efficiency and save money in the long term,” Levin said. “These measures will help Michigan communities lead the way to energy independence.”

The grants can be used for energy audits and building retrofits in the residential and commercial sector, the development and implementation of advanced building codes and inspections, and the creation of financial incentive programs for energy efficiency improvements.
