Stabenow, Levin: Senate Approves More Than $48 Million in Critical Funding for Michigan

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced the inclusion of $48,243,000 for 18 Michigan projects in the FY 2010 Agriculture Appropriations conference report which passed the Senate yesterday. This appropriations bill provides funding for the Department of Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, rural development programs, and related agencies. The bill will now be sent to President Obama for his signature.

“This critical funding will help make sure our beautiful lakes, wetlands, and forests are preserved and protected from invasive species, so Michigan residents and tourists alike can enjoy them for years to come,” said Stabenow.  “These important natural resources are an integral part of our way of life, as well as our economy.”

“This funding will help protect and restore Michigan’s cherished natural resources and help spur economic growth,” Levin said. “From combating diseases and eliminating invasive species, to funding enhanced economic opportunities, Michiganders stand to benefit a great deal from this bill when it becomes law.”
