Stabenow, Levin Announce More Than $830,000 for School Safety and Child Exploitation Prevention

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan will receive $832,035 in funding from the Secure Our Schools (SOS) grant program and Child Sexual Predator Program (CSPP). The grants are being awarded to four Michigan law enforcement agencies. The SOS grants will provide funding for metal detectors, locks, lighting, security training and other measures to provide a significant increase in security. The CSPP grant will provide funds to help locate, arrest and prosecute child sexual predators and exploiters.

“The safety of Michigan children is one of my top priorities,” said Stabenow. “That’s why I am pleased that this funding will help keep our schools safe and help law enforcement officials protect our children from child predators, while putting more officers back in our communities.”

“Protecting our children is among our highest duties, and so I welcome these important funds to Michigan police departments,” Levin said. “Improving the safety of our schools and protecting our children from child predators are two good ways to fulfill this duty.”

The funds are part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Recovery Program, which aims to hire and/or rehire community police officers in order to increase city policing and crime prevention efforts.
