Senators Stabenow, Levin Announce More Than $7.1 Million for Detroit Riverfront Dock and Terminal Construction

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the Detroit City Dock has been awarded $7,139,455 in federal stimulus funds. The funds will be used for the completion of the design and construction of a 200 foot by 40 foot offshore wharf and the design and construction of additional space for the terminal building.

“I am very pleased this critical funding is coming to downtown Detroit,” said Stabenow. “The new riverfront dock and terminal will help accommodate ships from all over the country and hopefully provide a much-needed economic boost to the region.”

“This is fabulous news,” Levin said. “This major addition to the Detroit waterfront has been a passion of mine for almost a decade now.”

The Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority (DWCPA) has been designing and constructing a state-of-the-art public dock and terminal along the Detroit River in downtown Detroit. When complete, it will be able to accommodate cruise and other ships, helping make Detroit a world class destination.

The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Ferry Boat Discretionary Program.
