Funds made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which passed earlier this year
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Wayne State University, Michigan State University, and Michigan Tech received a total of $416,185 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). “I’m pleased this recovery funding will help support important health care research across our state,” Stabenow said. “By investing in health care research we will not only help cure life-threatening diseases but also create good-paying jobs at the same time.” “With this recovery act funding, Michigan’s top-notch universities will continue to play a leading role in important medical research,” said Levin. “I am hopeful that their work will move science forward and contribute to real-world results for people in Michigan and beyond.” The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the primary federal agency for conducting and supporting medical research. Helping to lead the way toward important medical discoveries that improve people's health and save lives, NIH scientists investigate ways to prevent disease as well as the causes, treatments, and even cures for common and rare diseases.
