Stabenow,
Levin Hail $1.7 Million for Sawyer International Airport
|
| WASHINGTON
— U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced
today the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $1.7 million to
Sawyer International Airport in Marquette County through the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The funding will be used to improve
taxiway lighting by replacing the existing electrical vault at Sawyer.
“Replacing the taxiway lighting will help improve K.I Sawyer infrastructure, making runways safer for travelers,” said Stabenow. “This recovery funding will not only improve travel, but it will help create good-paying jobs in Michigan.” “This funding will help Sawyer International Airport continue to provide safe and efficient service to travelers,” said Levin. “I am pleased that this economic recovery act funding will be used to fill a pressing need and help create jobs here in Michigan at the same time.” The ARRA set aside $1.1 billion
to make discretionary grants under the Airport Improvement Program (AIP),
with priority given to projects that can be awarded quickly and completed
within two years. The AIP provides grants to public agencies and other
entities for the planning, development and improvement of public-use
airports that meet certain criteria. |
