Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $1.1 Million for Fire Safety

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that eight Michigan fire departments have been awarded $1,145,564 through the Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP). The funding will be used to support operations and firefighter safety and to purchase vehicles.

"Providing first responders with the equipment they need is a critical step in keeping Michigan communities safe,” said Stabenow. "I’m so pleased that this funding will provide our brave men and women with the resources they need to continue protecting Michigan families and homes from danger."

"Directing resources to our firefighters and first responders is an important way to ensure the safety of communities across Michigan," said Levin. "Better training and equipment will help these brave men and women do their jobs effectively."

The AFGP awards grants directly to fire departments and EMS organizations to improve the effectiveness of operations and health and safety programs, and to establish or expand fire prevention programs throughout the United States. Grants are awarded competitively through an application process. More information can be found at http://www.firegrantsupport.com/.
